Ansouis
Surrounded by vineyards, this is an old stone village build around a castle. It holds the Most Beautiful Villages of France designation, and part of that I think is the feeling of authenticity. The castle, in the middle of the town, has lasted centuries of warfare, fires and the destruction that took place with the French Revolution.
I arrived early in the morning and enjoyed the town to myself. The church ranks as one of the most distinctive I have visisted especially with the interior beautiful colours. The castle was closed so I could only enjoy exterior views.
