Conversano

Town with a deep history shaped by Norman lords and the powerful Acquaviva d'Aragona Counts who in the 15th to 19th centuries had the town transformed into a noble court and became a cultural hub.

Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta from the 1th-century is impressive. Apulian Romanesque cathedral featuring a classic rose window and medieval frescoes. Saints Cosma and Damiano Church has intricate Baroque wooden ceiling. Monastero di San Benedetto, a large former Benedictine monastery complex now houses historical and archaeological exhibits and includes parts of its cloisters. The historic centre has classic white stone alleys, archways and piazzas and palazzos.
