Mondavio
Under the rule of a number of noble families, it held a strategic position. This was where the noble Della Rovere family held primary residence. In 1631 the town became part of the Papal States.
The fortress, Rocca Roveresca, is considered a master of military architecture although it was never attacked. It holds a commanding stance over the entire town, was built between 1482 and 1492.
